Sunday Hymn: My Faith Has Found A Resting Place
by Rosemary ~ February 10th, 2008As I walked the treadmill this week, I’ve been listening to a sermon series on Galatians by Alistair Begg. He often quotes hymns during his sermons (I love that!) and yesterday’s sermon included this one. Since I’ve been singing it ever since, it seems right to post it once again. I recommend the Galatians series to you–Volumes 1 and 2!
My faith has found a resting place,
Not in device or creed;
I trust the ever living One,
His wounds for me shall plead.
Refrain
I need no other argument,
I need no other plea,
It is enough that Jesus died,
And that He died for me.
Enough for me that Jesus saves,
This ends my fear and doubt;
A sinful soul I come to Him,
He’ll never cast me out.
Refrain
My heart is leaning on the Word,
The living Word of God,
Salvation by my Savior’s Name,
Salvation through His blood.
Refrain
My great Physician heals the sick,
The lost He came to save;
For me His precious blood He shed,
For me His life He gave.
Refrain
Eliza E. Hewitt, 1891. Hymnals often show the author as Lidie H. Edmunds, Eliza’s pseudonym.

When we lived in Ohio I listened to Alister Begg every morning right after RC Sproul! His sermon series on the Sabbath (it’s been 5 or 6 years ago now, maybe even 7 years) was formative to my understanding of the Sabbath rest of believers. I’m leading a study in Hebrews now and I STILL refer to my notes from that sermon series.
I’ll have to check out the Galatians series, too, since the Galatians were in much the same situation as the ones to whom Hebrews is directed.
(I used to laugh when he’d break out into song lyrics–hardly a sermon would go by without at least one short reference!)

This is one of my favorite hymns. Thanks for reposting it. Its teaching gives great comfort, assurance, and conviction for Christian living–that faith alone in Christ is our salvation and great rest.

How I love those old hymns, so much substance. Alister Begg is one of my favorites also, I often start my day with his broadcast here.
There are times that is all I want to do is listen to good preaching, read the Word and take notes. I know that seems selfish, not seems it is but the older I get the quieter I so want to be.
Bless you Rosemary.

One of my favorite hymns as well! Now I’m singing it! (in my head…not aloud…no one deserves such punishment…:-) )

Beautiful hymn and we so enjoy Allistair. I’ll have to look into his Galatians series. Way to go walking on your treadmill!
