Got a great Sugar Cookie recipe?

by Rosemary ~ October 29th, 2007

The holidays are going to be here before you know it, and I’m on the hunt for the perfect, delicious, crisp-yet-tender, buttery, not overly sweet sugar cookie recipe. With maybe just a hint of citrus. I’d like a dough that is easy to roll out and cut into (even intricate) shapes for Christmas, then baked and decorated with Royal icing or simply baked with a sprinkle of sanding sugar. I know there are a bazillion sugar cookie recipes online, but you could save me a lot of trouble by sharing your already-tested-tried-and-true recipe! I’ve used a lot of recipes, but haven’t yet found one that meets my idea of the Perfect Sugar Cookie.

So…if you’re willing to share that treasured recipe, post it on your blog and leave a link in the comments, or just put the recipe in the comments if you’d rather or if you don’t have a blog. The coffee’s brewing, so bring on the Sugar Cookies!

    I have one, Rosemary.

I’ll have to dig it out and type it up, though because it isn’t on the computer yet.

Give me a bump to remind me if it isn’t forthcoming. I’ve got a very busy week and I tend to be forgetful. It won’t hurt my feelings if you have to remind me.

This recipe has been the best for me! I have to say I have not tried intricate shapes with it though. I hope you enjoy:)!! It is easy to roll out and has been great for my 4 kids to make cookies with at Christmas time!

    SUGAR COOKIES;
    1 1/2 Cup powdered sugar
    1 Cup butter (softened)
    1 egg
    1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon almond extract (could be substituted for a citrus flavor)
    1 teaspoon cream of tartar
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    2 1/2 cups flour

Mix together ingredients. Chill for 2 hours. Flour surface, roll out and cut into desired shapes! Bake @ 375 7-9 min.
    Enjoy!

You mean you don’t want to just buy the tube of dough at the grocery store? :-) Guess I’m no help then!

Please post the goodness of all of these when they arrive. Or at least the ones that you try and are true. Love the snow shot, my husband’s a Colorado native. :) It’s looking good. Love your site, I hopped over from Kim’s at Lifesong.
