Got a great Sugar Cookie recipe?

Monday, October 29th, 2007

The holidays are going to be here before you know it, and I’m on the hunt for the perfect, delicious, crisp-yet-tender, buttery, not overly sweet sugar cookie recipe. With maybe just a hint of citrus. I’d like a dough that is easy to roll out and cut into (even intricate) shapes for Christmas, then baked [...]

Seek for happiness and you will never find it. Seek righteousness and you will discover you are happy. It will be there without your knowing it, without your seeking it. ~Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Sunday Hymn: Break Thou the Bread of Life

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

Break Thou the bread of life, dear Lord, to me,
As Thou didst break the loaves beside the sea;
Beyond the sacred page I seek Thee, Lord;
My spirit pants for Thee, O living Word!
Bless Thou the truth, dear Lord, to me, to me,
As Thou didst bless the bread by Galilee;
Then shall all bondage cease, all fetters fall;
And [...]

It’s a snowy day in Colorado

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

It’s snowing in our neck of the woods in Colorado! We woke up to about 3 inches, and it’s continued to snow all day. We had so much snow last year, the thought of snow season beginning is a bit daunting. But it’s gorgeous, and we’re warm and cozy. Not bad; not bad at all.

Sunday Hymn: Christ Is Made the Sure Foundation

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

Christ is made the sure Foundation,
Christ the Head and Cornerstone;
Chosen of the Lord, and precious,
Binding all the Church in one,
Holy Zion’s Help forever,
And her Confidence alone.
All that dedicated city,
Dearly loved of God on high,
In exultant jubilation,
Pours perpetual melody,
God the One in Three adoring
In glad hymns eternally.
To this temple, where we call Thee,
Come, O Lord of [...]

George MacDonald on marriage

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

One of the good things that come of being married is that there is one face which you can still see the same through all the shadows which years have gathered and heaped upon it. No, I have a better way of putting it: there is one face whose final beauty you can see the [...]

Right or Righteous?

Friday, October 19th, 2007

A couple of days ago I posted a quote from Oswald Chambers. It’s one that I’ve been (to quote a Puritan) moiling and toiling over for a while, especially this sentence: I must take my emotional opinions and intellectual beliefs and be willing to turn them into a moral verdict against the nature of sin;, [...]

Recipe Roundup: October

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

Time for another Recipe Roundup, hosted this month at Motherhood Apologia. The theme is freezer food, and I’m looking forward to using the recipes that I’ve already seen posted on other blogs. Here’s my contribution; I’m obviously supplying the dessert course!
Chocolate Mud Pie
1 (8.5 oz.) pkg. chocolate wafers
1/2 c. plus 3 T. butter or margarine
1 [...]

Pulling no punches…

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

“The inescapable spiritual need each of us have is the need to sign the death certificate of our sin nature. I must take my emotional opinions and intellectual beliefs and be willing to turn them into a moral verdict against the nature of sin; that is, against any claim I have to my right to [...]
