“Be patient with me; God’s not finished with me yet.” So said the woman with a coy smile and lilting inflection in her voice. The worn out bumper-sticker slogan had come to the rescue of yet another Christian caught in an embarrassing situation. I responded with a weak “Uh-huh” and watched her walk away. I’ve [...]
He that is down needs fear no fall;
He that is low, no pride;
He that is humble ever shall
Have God to be his guide.
I am content with what I have,
Little be it or much;
And, Lord, contentment still I crave,
Because Thou savest such.
Fulness to such a burden is,
That go on pilgrimage;
Here little, and hereafter bliss,
Is best from [...]
Man of Sorrows! what a name
For the Son of God, who came
Ruined sinners to reclaim.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Bearing shame and scoffing rude,
In my place condemned He stood;
Sealed my pardon with His blood.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Guilty, vile, and helpless we;
Spotless Lamb of God was He;
“Full atonement!” can it be?
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Lifted up was He to [...]
My brother Dan emailed this old Welsh prayer to me this morning, and I thought it a good one to share with you all.
What we know not, teach us,

But the last couple of days, I’ve been experiencing a different kind of heart burn. [...]
I’ve had it with summer and hot weather! Time for fall colors to bring in cool breezes, and I’m doing my part to hurry the season. Thanks to my son for doing all the work. I only had to point, and he did all the clicking. Thanks, Nate.
“Well-fortified cities have broad walls, and so did Jerusalem in her glory days. The New Jerusalem must, similarly, be surrounded and preserved by a broad wall of nonconformity to the world and separation from its patterns and ideas. There is a tendency today to break down this holy barrier and make the distinction between the [...]
King of my life, I crown Thee now,
Thine shall the glory be;
Lest I forget Thy thorn crowned brow,
Lead me to Calvary.
Refrain
Lest I forget Gethsemane,
Lest I forget Thine agony;
Lest I forget Thy love for me,
Lead me to Calvary.
Show me the tomb where Thou wast laid,
Tenderly mourned and wept;
Angels in robes of light arrayed
Guarded Thee whilst Thou [...]
“I remember once reading words to this effect–that, the moment we come into any trial or difficulty, our first thought should be, not how soon can we escape from it, or how may we lessen the pain we shall suffer from it, but how we can best glorify God in it, and most quickly learn [...]
