Hymn for the New Year: Oh Lord, Our Father, Thanks to Thee

Sunday, December 31st, 2006

Lord, our Father, thanks to Thee
In this new year we render,
For every evil had to flee
Before Thee, our Defender.
Our life was nourished, we were fed
With rich supplies of daily bread,
And peace reigned in our borders.
Lord Jesus Christ, our thanks to Thee
In this new year we render;
Thy reign hath kept Thy people free,
Hath shown Thy mercies [...]

A prayer for the new year

Friday, December 29th, 2006

Road of My Desire
O thou who doest direct my feet
To right or left where pathways part,
Wilt thou not, faithful Paraclete
Direct the journeying of my heart?
Into the love of God, I pray,
Deeper and deeper let me press,
Exploring all along the way
Its secret strength and tenderness.
Into the steadfastness of one
Who patiently endured the cross
Of him who, though [...]

Christmas Hymn: Immanuel, We Sing Thy Praise

Sunday, December 24th, 2006

Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Isaiah 7:14
Immanuel, we sing Thy praise;
Thou Prince of Life, Thou Fount of Grace,
With all Thy saints, Thee, Lord, we sing;
Praise, honor, thanks, to Thee we bring.
E’er since the world began to [...]

Still snowbound

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

The snow has ended, and we have an accumulation of between two and three feet. Our covered porch doesn’t usually get anything but a dusting of snow, but this time our twig chairs got covered. The lump in the corner is actually a birdhouse on a twig table.

Our lab, Libby, usually likes to romp in [...]

Snowbound!

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

It snowed all day yesterday, through the night, and it’s still going strong. Everything is at a stand-still, but it sure is gorgeous. The best part about it is being snowbound at home for two days straight. Time to bake at a leisurely pace and enjoy time with my husband as he works at home.
I [...]

A White Christmas is on the way

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

Remember when I posted this? We’re in the beginning stages of a blizzard here in Colorado, with an expected total of 24 inches on the way. It’s coming down heavily, with lots of blowing and temperatures in the single digits. Our house will once again look like the picture, but with MORE snow! If I [...]

A Meditation for Christmas

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

Consider, O my soul, what morn is this!
Wherein the eternal Lord of all things made,
For us poor mortals, and our endless bliss,
Came down from heaven; and, in a manger laid
The first, rich, offerings of our ransom paid:
Consider, O my soul, what morn is this !
Consider what estate of fearful woe
Had then been ours, had he [...]

Holy Child Who Chose The Hearts Of Men

Sunday, December 17th, 2006

Holy Child who chose the hearts of men
To be His favoured home
Leaving heaven’s gates for Bethlehem
God came to call His own
Now to us the highest King is born
Behold the Royal Son
Glory kneels to bind up all that’s torn
The promised one has come
Joy and pain as man He knew on earth
No place to lay His head
As [...]

A great interview

Thursday, December 7th, 2006

This morning I watched an interview of Alistair Begg by a news reporter of one of the local TV stations in Cleveland. He gave a very clear, unabashed presentation of the gospel in a way that invites, as the gospel should be. You can find the link on the Truth For Life website. It’s good [...]
